BEHIND THE LENS

A small spark can ignite a roaring fire they say, and that is where my lifelong love affair with photography began. In 1982 I picked up a 35mm point & shoot film camera and a few rolls of film, strapped a backpack on and went for a walk up in the back country of Wyoming and it started. I personally love the connection and joy I get when I photograph, whether the subject is people, landscapes, wildlife or the beauty’s and mysteries of this world. I learned with film cameras at first and what I could glen from books, classes, other photographers and several professional organizations. I really don’t know how many thousands of images I have taken over the years, but the boxes and hard drives of negatives and digital files prove it. They say it 10,000 shots to make one good one. I think I may have one! Since the switch from film to digital in 2007 I have had more opportunities to grow and change at a much faster rate in such a positive way, digital has let me explore different styles, different types of photography and even art in artistic composites. I am constantly learning and growing in my art and education. I love to experiment and go outside the box with new ideas and new styles. I feel that if you are not always pushing your talents and looking at things in a different way every day, you lose the ability to truly see how complex and exciting the world and people really are. In 2007 my wife, the love of my life, helped me decide that I needed to make a change and take a leap of faith and move into the professional field, practice time was over you could say I thought hard about this and with support of each other the support from family, friends, peers, and great clients, I have not looked back since. I love what I do and I it shows (life is good).
