A THOUGHT OF TIME

Spring of March 2019, Southern Utah, 12 miles north of Hanksville Utah.

Before me lay the flat Utah desert with a mesa here and there on the east, toward the west lays the famous San Rafael Swell rising out of the desert floor. For many years I have wanted to visit and photograph the Goblin Valley geological formation, and I finally had the opportunity. I heard this place was quite unique to see and was not disappointed when I arrived. Goblin Valley lays hidden in a depression which formed a small valley in the desert floor below the normal horizon, and you would not even notice it when you drove by.

Upon arriving there, I was awestruck by what I was seeing before me, at first glance it looked like a giant mushroom patch of different sizes. To other people they say at night it looks like eerie ghosts and goblins which I could see, but I did not have the opportunity to stay after dark to observe this (next time). To comprehend this place, when walking down through the formation’s, thoughts came to my mind, is this what it feels like to be an insect on the ground? As I wandered down from above to explore this place, I became almost lost, memorized sometimes, it felt almost maze like. My thoughts and senses where dumbfounded, how on earth where these things formed? Mother nature was in an odd mood when she created this place. Wondering and exploring for a better part of a day, I stared to feel a connection develop. Time, I thought to myself, these things took a lot of time, not an overnight creation, these unique formations have been and still are in the process of being created from un-comprehendible eons past to eons into the future. Continual change, continual elements battering at them, and the main factor, TIME!

From this experience I was reminded of my life and the changes I go through, your life changes, continual change, and what is the main factor? TIME. Time continually shapes and forms us as with the formations as an example. We are all different stones uniquely being shaped by time.

This image that I captured here speaks to me of time. I created it in black & white to convey a message of feeling, of no distraction, no color, what you see before you are the true feeling of Time…
